Demi Lovato performed at the radio station B96's Pepsi Summer Smash in Chicago on Saturday, and the star paid tribute to the city she said put her life back on the right track.

"Every time that I play Chicago, I don't know what it is--maybe it's because I felt so much love here and I've been through so much; I just want you guys to know that when I come to Chicago, I never forget that this place is the place that saved my life," she told the crowd.

The singer battled an eating disorder when she was a 12-year-old, and in 2010, at the age of 18, she entered rehab.

"I'm not gonna lie. I was self-medicating. I was doing things like drinking and using [drugs], like a lot of teens do to numb their pain," she told Seventeen about her decision to enter an Illinois rehab in the 2012 interview.

During the concert, the X Factor judge also told audience members, who may be going through similar issues, that they are not alone.

"If anybody out there is dealing with an eating disorder, substance abuse, cutting, bullying, whatever it is -- I want you guys to know that I've been through it and that I've gotten through it and you can do it too," she added.

The 20-year-old former Disney star also discussed her past difficulties on her latest album Demi, which was released in May. On the ballad Warrior, for example, she sings, "Now I'm a warrior, now I've got thicker skin, I'm a warrior, I'm stronger than I've ever been and my armor is made of steel, you can't get in."

Other artists who performed at the Chicago concert, included Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, Ne-Yo, Avrll Lavigne, Afrojack, Emblem 3, Cher Lloyd and Ariana Grande.
