Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis Split & News of Breakup Was 'Certainly Unpleasant,' Actor Says
For the first time, Johnny Depp opened up about his split from Vanessa Paradis in 2012.
"The last couple years have been a bit bumpy. At times, certainly unpleasant, but that's the nature of breakups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved," Depp told Rolling Stone in a Tuesday interview.
Depp had been involved with the French star for 14 years. They have two children together named Lily-Rose, 14, and Jack, 11.
Despite the breakup, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor didn't have any negative words to say about his ex love. He explained that relationships, in general, are hard but especially with a career like his.
"Especially in the racket that I'm in, because you're constantly away or they're away, and so it's hard. It wasn't easy on her. It wasn't easy on me. It wasn't easy on the kids," he said. "So for whatever reason that ceases, it doesn't stop the fact that you care for that person, and they're the mother of your kids, and you'll always know each other, and you're always gonna be in each other's lives because of those kids. You might as well make the best of it."
In order to deal with the breakup, Depp said he wasn't going to depend on alcohol regardless of how difficult the situation was on him. He also made it clear that his main focus throughout the ordeal was his children.
The actor is now romantically tied to actress Amber Heard. The two were co-stars in 2011's The Rum Diary.
As Enstars previously reported, the two were see having dinner with Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards in Los Angeles on May 22.
Aside from his relationships, the 50-year-old actor is also set to appear in The Lone Ranger. In the action film, which hit theaters on July 3, Depp plays a Native American warrior named Tonto.
