Tom Hardy Loses Bet To Leonardo DiCaprio, Gets 'Leo Knows All' Tattoo
The special bond between The Revenant costars Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio is now immortalized in the words "Leo Knows All" on Hardy's skin.
The pair of A-list actors starred together in the 2016 film The Revenant, which won DiCaprio his much-awaited Academy Award Best Actor trophy. Less talked about in that season's awards circuit is Hardy, who DiCaprio predicted would get nominated for a Best Supporting Actor award.
The Mad Max: Fury Road actor wasn't as convinced as his friend, so the duo agreed on a bet: the winner gets to choose a tattoo design for the loser.
Ridiculous as their bet was, Hardy's not one to back out on a bet. Nearly two years after losing, Hardy finally gets his homage to his friend who apparently knows everything.
Photographer Andrew Calisterio took a selfie with the actor on Instagram, capturing the tattoo that is visible on his bicep: "Leo Knows All."
It's not quite as bad as Hardy was expecting back in 2016, when he told Esquire that DiCaprio is opting for a design that's done in "sh*tty handwriting." Fortunately for Hardy, the final design tattoo is in clean block letters. It's surprising that the actor didn't opt to get inked in a more covert spot as the words are big and clear enough on his bicep to be noticeable by anyone who takes a second look.
If he hadn't been nominated back in 2016, DiCaprio would have lost the bet and be at his costar's mercy. However, Hardy doubts he would've gotten away with inking the Oscar-winning actor with a similar design.
"He would never get a tattoo if he lost that bet!" Hardy tells Vanity Fair in 2017. "It was just one-way. I'm covered in shit tattoos anyway, so it doesn't make any difference to me. If I got a big bold 'Leo' right across my thigh or across my face. It's just that, isn't it? You bet a tattoo, you lose. That's what happens."
His extensive body art certainly hasn't stopped Hardy's star from rising. The renowned actor is even joining the perpetually growing Marvel universe as Spider-Man's arch-nemesis Venom in an upcoming solo film for the villain.
"I just wanted to say that I give you my word of honour that I'm going to do everything that I can to deliver the best Venom that I possibly can muster," Hardy says during a live satellite call at the Brazil Comic Con Experience in January.
Venom is slated for release on Oct. 5.
