Pink Gets The Flu Before 2018 Super Bowl, Nails National Anthem Performance Anyway
Pink nailed her National Anthem performance at the Super Bowl LII on Sunday, Feb. 4, even though she was struggling with the flu.
The Performance
The Grammy-winning singer hit all the right notes as she performed a rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the annual championship game between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Sunday. Pink's Flu Battle
The "Beautiful Trauma" singer always wanted to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl ever since she saw Whitney Houston's performance in 1991. However, days before her performance she took to Instagram to reveal that she was suffering from the flu.
On Saturday, Feb. 3, Pink shared a photo of herself practicing at the stadium and in the caption, she said she had the flu thanks to "two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek."
She also noted that performing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl was one of the biggest honors and her lifelong dream, but it was slowly turning into a nightmare because of the flu.
Despite being sick, the singer promised that she would give her 100% and that's exactly what she did. By delivering a jaw-dropping performance, she prompted many people, including the likes of Sheryl Crow and Ellen DeGeneres, to flock to Twitter to voice their praise and admiration for her impressive performance despite being sick.
Pink Clarifies Gum-Spitting Moment
Pink was the only other performer at this year's Super Bowl apart from Justin Timberlake, who headlined the halftime show on Sunday. Right before she started singing the National Anthem, the singer spat out what some people thought was chewing gum.
However, Pink later took to Twitter to clarify that what she removed from her mouth was not gum but a throat lozenge, which is commonly used to cure a sore throat and cough. Pink also used the micro-blogging platform to express gratitude to her 32 million followers for their love, support, and prayers.
