Kim Kardashian Baby Name North West [PHOTOS], Couple 'Didn't Take Nori's Feelings into Consideration,' Says Expert
After news broke that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West named their daughter North West, fans and critics alike started criticizing the pair's choice.
Jennifer Moss, Founder and CEO of BabyNames.com, told Enstars that the moniker is a bad choice and the pair have already set up their days old daughter to be the punchline of every joke.
"I give them a C- on this name choice. It's obviously meant as a joke, and they didn't take the child's feelings into consideration," she said. "What we tell all parents: before you choose a name for publicity purposes or because it makes you laugh, think about your child. Can he/she live with the name or have you given your kid a name that will be a burden on them?"
Twitter has erupted in jokes -- and there is already several North West parody Twitter accounts, including @Its_North_West ("You may laugh at my name, but I laugh at your bank balance.") and @NorthKimWest.
No word on how the first-time parents finally decided on North, but reports indicated the baby already has a nickname, "Nori."
Websters dictionary definition describes "Nori" a seaweed having a mildly sweet, salty taste, usually dried, used in Japanese cookery mainly as a wrap for sushi.
However, BabyNames.com defines the meaning of the name Nori as a belief and the origin of the name is Japanese.
Of course, Kardashian and West aren't the first Hollywood pair to choose a unusual name for their child. When Holly Madison revealed the name of her first daughter - Rainbow Aurora - she was hit with severe criticism. On March 8, Holly took to her blog to speak out against the haters, and defend her baby's name.
"I have always loved the name Rainbow. There was a girl in my school a few years younger than me named Rainbow and I was so envious of her name because it was so pretty and unusual," Holly wrote on her blog.
Weighing in on the unusual monikers, Moss added: "By nature, celebrities are creative type people. Therefore they do choose more unique and creative names that are not the norm. They also like to be center of attention, and they know a unique or deliberately crazy baby name will definitely bring attention. It will get press."
TMZ was the first to report the news of the baby's birth and the tabloid site recently uploaded North's birth certificate. The official document indicated that the baby was born at Cedars Senai hospital on June 15 at 5:34 am, weighing under 5 lbs.
A middle name is not listed for baby North, and parents Kardashian and West are obviously entered in on the certificate.
"Many cultures do not use middle names. In this case, maybe Kim and Kanye spent so much time trying to create the joke, they forgot a second name!" Moss quipped.
Kardashian and West have yet to comment on the baby news.
