Demi Lovato Dad Dies: 'X Factor' Judge Cancels Appearance After Biological Father Passes Away
Patrick Lovato, the biological father of Demi Lovato, has passed away.
The news broke when his other daughter, Dallas Lovato, 25, tweeted: "Rest in peace, daddy."
No further details of his death are known at this time, though he had been battling cancer in recent years. The X Factor judge has yet to comment on her father's death, whom she shared a tumultuous relationship with and who was the subject of her 2011 song, For the Love of a Daughter from her Unbroken album.
Mr. Lovato and Demi's mother, Dianna, divorced in 1994. The singer had been estranged from her father since 2007.
After fans sent their condolences via Twitter and social media, Demi's mom, tweeted, "Thank you for the outpouring of love and prayers. Y'all are amazing!"
The "Give Your Heart a Break" singer cancelled her X Factor work commitments on Saturday.
The singer and actress did not attend a photoshoot with fellow judges Simon Cowell, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio. Host Mario Lopez tweeted a picture of the group to let Demi know they were thinking of her.
He wrote: "With my @TheXFactorUSA team! Missing @ddlovato today... :(."
Simon Cowell also took to Twitter to send his condolences to Demi, writing: "My thoughts are with you Demi.X"
