Drop Dead Diva was full of surprises when it returned for Season 5 on Sunday night. Love, drama and a new guardian angel stirred up the plot -- with Old Jane finally returning.

Spoiler alert! If you haven't watched the Season 5 premiere of Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva, stop reading now.

When viewers last saw New Jane (Brooke Elliott) -- the name being used to refer to Jane since the soul of dead aspiring model, Deb, posessed her --she had just kissed Grayson (Jackson Hurst), Deb's former fiance. Grayson told New Jane he loved her right as she was about to marry Owen (Lex Medlin). Owen saw the kiss and collapsed, right as Old Jane pushed the button to return her soul to Earth. So Old Jane is back, but for most of the episode we don't know if she's in Owen's body or somewhere else.

During the episode, Back From the Dead, viewers learned Old Jane isn't in Owen, she's in the body of a gorgeous blonde (Pretty Little Liars' Natalie Hall), who says she wants her life back.

"We explain what she means in the very top of the next episode. 502 starts about five hours after the end of 501, and we quickly understand exactly why Old Jane came back--and it's not the reasons you think she's back," creator Josh Berman told EW, adding the character will be in multiple episodes.

"Natalie Hall seemed to completely understand the notion of an introverted lawyer brainiac stuck in a gorgeous skinny model's body. So when she walked in for her audition, she was so cute and so on point with who she was--not playing into her sexuality, but trying to play into her brain--that she just nailed it," he said.

Meanwhile, New Jane is caught in a love triangle, hoping to win back Owen--even though Grayson says he loves her. It seems Grayson will keep pursuing New Jane.

"It is time to turn over some cards, and we are going to push Jane's love life further, and it will have repercussions for both Grayson and Owen," Berman said.

In the law office, Kim (Kate Levering) finally admits she's pregnant --which means she will give birth this season.

"It's one of the funniest labor scenes that I have ever seen in my life," Berman says. "I think she delivers in a way that no women has ever delivered."

Also look for the return of John Katzenberger, as Kim's father. "We'll learn a little bit more about his relationship with her that might help inform Kim's relationship with her new baby," Berman added.

In the premiere episode, Jane also meets her new guardian angel played by Justin Deeley. Deely seems to embody the personality traits and physical attributes of Deb. He is someone who was beautiful on the outside and superficial on the inside.
