Jiah Khan Suicide Inspires Filmmaker to Portray Bollywood Actress on Screen?
The suicide of Bollywood actress Jiah Khan inspired a new film about three aspiring actresses who come to Mumbai to make a career in the movie industry, Times of India reported Monday.
The film titled Bold Bollywood, has actors like Hazel Keech, Sandeepa Dhar, Shweta Bharadwaj, Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Joshi among others playing key roles. Making his directorial debut is Rikshhit Matta, who talked about the film's connection to Khan's suicide that took place on June 3.
Khan's mother, Razia Khan, said the late actress was unhappy about her acting career. The 25-year-old last appeared in a supporting role in Sajid Khan's comedy Housefull in 2010. Jiah was exploring a career in interior designing besides acting in films, according to her mother.
"The media reports surrounding the sad death of Jiah Khan, the heartbreak and the subsequent loss moved me," Matta said. "Success in Bollywood is elusive and there are a lot of pitfalls. My film is a sincere attempt to expose the underbelly of the film fraternity. One of the characters is similar to Jiah Khan and the ups and down she went through in her career and life."
Producer Shabana Hashmi said the film attempts to "bring forth the dark side of the glamour world." Working with Matta on future projects, they will try to take upon subjects with a message that bring about an awareness in society, she said. Bold Bollywood will be Hashmi's debut into feature film production.
A promotional photo for the film features the silhouettes of three women with the words across the top "Success comes with a price tag."
Bold Bollywood is presented by Zahara Productions. The company "aims to create content that 'defines the epitome of quality entertainment in the realm of music, movies and talent," according to IMDb.
