Jay-Z Justin Timberlake 'Holy Grail' Lyrics Released
A preview of Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail hit the web today when the lyrics to the song Holy Grail, which features Justin Timberlake, was released on the app that will deliver the album to Samsung Galaxy users three day's before the album is officially released on July 7.
On the track Jay-Z delves into his struggles with stardom.
"Caught up in all these lights and cameras, but look at what that **** did to Hammer," Jay-Z raps. "The bright lights is enticing, but look at what it did to Tyson."
On the song the Brooklyn rapper also admits he struggles with raising his daughter Blue Ivy in the public eye and later laments on his fa-from-normal life.
"I got haters in the paper, photo shoots with paparazzi, can't even take my daughter for a walk, see them by the corner store I feel like I'm cornered off, enough is enough, I'm calling this off," he raps.
Holy Grail samples lyrics from the Nirvana mega hit Smells Like Teen Spirit and had to be cleared by Courtney Love, who was married to the band's iconic frontman Kurt Cobain and owns the rights to his music. She told the Huffington Post that her daughter Francis is a big Jay-Z fan.
"I'm letting Jay-Z use lyrics -- Francis would freak [if she knew this.] Jay-Z's huge and we're friends. I mean we're not besties or anything...." Love said in the interview.
However, Love later suggested that Jay-Z didn't quite get her permission to use her deceased husband's lyrics.
"They [used it] without asking, which is kind of nervy but the business side has been taken care of so it's fine," she said.
The song features reworked lines from the Nirvana classic such as, "And we all just, entertainers and we're stupid, and contagious."
It also features the lyrics, "Nobody to blame / Kurt Cobain / I did it to myself."
