Kim Kardashian, Kanye West Baby PHOTOS: Meaning Behind North's Name Revealed
Fans and critics have had plenty to say about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's baby name, North. But now, the meaning behind their daughter's unique moniker has been revealed.
According to E! News, who broke the story, Kim and Kanye picked the name because "North means highest power."
"North is the most high. There is nothing higher than North," explained the source. "And, when it comes to the stars, the sun rises in the East and sets in the West."
The couple reportedly believe having a girl is their "highest point together," said a source. "Nothing is more special than North. Kim keeps saying, 'She is our North Star.'"
The name North came as a surprise to fans, who recalled Kim's March interview with Jay Leno, in which she laughed at the baby name North. She insisted that she and her beau weren't considering the unique moniker for their baby.
When Leno asked her if they were thinking about the name North, the E! reality star laughed, explaining, "There are so many rumors. That is not true … that is not one of the names on the list."
Kardashian, however, did say she liked another name: Easton! "It kind of goes with North," she said. "I think that's cute."
Kim and Kanye welcomed their daughter at Cedars Senai hospital on June 15 at 5:34 am. Little "Nori," as she is being nicknamed, weighed under 5 lbs. and arrived five weeks early.
During her week at the hospital, the reality star, 32 (with rapper West, 36, at her side) has fielded frequent visits from family members and close friends -- including sister Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, mom Kris Jenner, BFFs Brittney Gastineau and Jonathan Cheban.
