Mary J. Blige Didn't Get A Dime For Her Oscar-Nominated Role In 'Mudbound'
Mary J. Blige is still tied up in a nasty divorce with her ex-husband, Kendu Isaacs, who is reportedly still pursuing a huge alimony check from the Grammy Award winner.
Well, Isaacs and his legal team are sadly mistaken if they think they will be able to leverage anything from Blige's Oscar-nominated role in her latest film, Mudbound.
On Tuesday, Feb. 27, TheBlast.com was able to obtain legal documents filed by the R&B songstress ahead of her forthcoming divorce trial. The documents state Blige's current financial status and that she didn't earn any income from Mudbound. The songwriter ended up with more expenses for her role in the Netflix film than getting compensated.
However, the 47-year-old claims that despite receiving two Oscar nominations for her part in the flick, which are Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song, Complex reported that she didn't participate for money but did it to further "support her brand."
Mary's Current Income
Blige may have received not a coin for her role but she has stated that her main source of income came from touring. Unfortunately, that has changed since she is now a legacy artist and "there is no market for her to embark on a major world tour every year."
The documents also disclose that although she and Isaacs were together, the two accumulated $12 million in debt, which she has been required to pay off since he has remained unemployed.
Blige And Isaacs's Volatile Relationship
As previously reported, Blige filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Martin "Kendu" Isaacs, in July 2016 citing irreconcilable differences. The two were married in December 2003.
Following Blige's decision to separate from her former manager, Blige was ordered to pay Isaacs $30,000 a month in temporary spousal support in the $129,000 that he intially requested. He is presumed to be seeking more money.
In an interview with Variety in September 2017, the actress stated that the separation has weighed heavily on her well-being.
"I thought someone loved me, right? Turns out, he was a con artist and he didn't, and now he's coming after me for all my money," Blige said.
Blige also believes that she was "suckered and played" and admitted that she believes there was another woman that was his queen.
The former couple is expected to appear in court in March.
In more positive news, Blige's fans are hoping she will take home an Oscar for her Mudbound. The Oscars will be telecast on Sunday, March 4, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
