TLC, the girl group famous for their song Waterfalls in the 1990s, released a new version of the song replacing the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes who died in 2002.

The new version of Waterfalls was recorded in honor of the song's 20th anniversary, TMZ reported Tuesday. Two of the trio's members, T-Boz and Chili, recorded the new version with Japanese pop star Namie Amuro. Lopes' family is allegedly not happy with the group's decision to record Waterfalls without Lopes.

"I did not know about it until a fan posted it online," the late singer's sister, Reigndrop Lopes, said Tuesday. "I mean it would have been nice if they would have given us a head up before being surprised."

Reigndrop also revealed that their mother was "shocked and hurt" by the re-recording, thinking that the song would've honored Left Eye if they kept her in. The original song features Left Eye rapping a verse during the bridge, but the new recording has Amuro rapping the verse instead.

Though the new recording is classified as exclusively the "Japan Edition" on YouTube, that hasn't stopped fans of the group from bashing it.

"Absolute garbage! Lisa has rolled over in her grave," said one YouTube user, while another wrote, "This hurts! A true TLC fan is now trying not to hit the dislike button!"

Waterfalls was TLC's biggest hit in the U.S., staying at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for seven weeks in 1995. The song was nominated at the Grammys for Record of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Left Eye was killed in a car crash in Honduras in 2002. The final month of her life was recorded on video and released as a documentary called The Last Days of Left Eye.
