Taylor Swift News: Songwriting For New Album Already Started, 'Red' Singer Admits
Taylor Swift admitted recently to already working on music for her next album and talked about her songwriting style.
Red has been in stores only for seven months but the 23-year-old is ready to move on. She tends to release new music every two years and talked to Great American Country about the process.
"I like to write for about two years before I'm finished with an album because at this point I kind of know that whatever I write in the first year is gonna get thrown away because I'm gonna like it but it's gonna sound a little bit like the last project I had," she said. "And then the second year usually ends up sounding like the next project."
Swift goes in a different direction with each album she releases. Red was musically different from 2010's Speak Now and the Grammy winner reassured fans her next album will also be unique. The I Knew You Were Trouble singer embraces change and taking risks as she furthers her music career. She told the website that at this point, releasing music that is "saying the same" as before "is the easy way to go."
"But it's not the way that I want to go creatively," she added. "You need to challenge yourself, you need to change up your influences. I think you need to be inspired by different things than you were inspired by before and it's harder to call up people you don't know and work with them for the first time. And it's hard to think of topics you haven't covered and think of new ways to say old emotions that everyone feels. But that's the goal at this point."
As she evolved as an artist, she recognizes the country music industry for backing her up while she tries new things. One thing that has made her the happiest in the last year is the "acceptance level" in the country music industry for her "experimenting," "trying to evolve" and challenge herself musically.
"Because I think it's never felt better to be on that stadium stage performing knowing that everyone's been so welcoming of change," she said.
