'I'm Not Amy Fischer!' Amy Schumer Refuses To Change Her Last Name After Tying The Knot
Don’t plan on actress Amy Schumer changing her last name anytime soon. The star got married to chef Chris Fischer in a secret ceremony recently.
Nix The Mrs. Fischer Jokes
Still, she has decided not to change her last name. She wants people to stop calling her Amy Fischer, too.
She shared the news on none other than an Instagram story with her father. He was asking her if her last name was Schumer or Fischer.
“I’m not Amy Fischer!” said Schumer before she explained her decision. “Do you remember who Amy Fisher is? The Long Island Lolita. No, I’m keeping my last name. I’m keeping your last name.”
The Fisher that Schumer was referring to was a woman who made headlines in the early 1990s. Fisher shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco, the wife of the man she was seeing named Joey Buttafuoco. Fisher was 17 at the time. Fisher pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated assault and spent seven years behind bars. She was granted parole in 1999.
As for Schumer, she and her husband's union was a lot more discreet than that. While they hosted A-list stars like Jennifer Aniston, Schumer's friend Jennifer Lawrence, Jake Gyllenhaal, and David Spade, the ceremony was not only said to be laid-back but was planned just days before. Schumer literally sent text messages to her guests the Sunday prior to their Tuesday ceremony.
Still, it was said to be a fun wedding.
Does Mr. Fischer Care?
Thankfully for Schumer, her husband might not care if she takes his last name. He reportedly isn’t a fan of the celebrity life and all that comes with it.
Instead, he’s been described as an authentic family guy.
The Secret Wedding Details
Lawrence, who is a good friend of Schumer's, gushed about the wedding. She cried during Schumer’s big day and said it was clear Schumer and Fischer have nothing but love for one another.
“It was a beautiful ceremony and an amazing time,” said Lawrence. “I couldn’t be happier.”
Schumer was said to be her funny self at the ceremony that was a surprise to all considering that she and Fischer had only been together for a few months. She joked that she would keep their sex life interesting while others doubted she could keep it up for the long haul. Schumer gushed in her vows that she didn’t want to wait to be Fischer's spouse, although she’s not officially Mrs. Fischer.
