Saturn Awards 2013 Winners List: Marvel's 'The Avengers,' 'Breaking Bad' & 'The Walking Dead' Among Top Honored [VIDEO]
Marvel's The Avengers won big at the 39th Annual Saturn Awards Wednesday night including Best Science Fiction Film.
The Saturn Awards, which were given out in Burbank Wednesday night, were presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, honoring both film and television in those select genres.
Marvel's The Avengers won Best Science Fiction Film, Best Supporting Actor for Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Best Direction for Joss Whedon and Best Special Effects.
"I'm such a sci-fi geek," Gregg admitted in his acceptance speech. On his first appearance in Iron Man he noted, "I was as geeking out to meet Robert Downey Jr. as to talk to Tony Stark."
As for other big film awards, Life of Pi won Best Fantasy Film, The Cabin in the Woods won Best Horror/Thriller Film and Skyfall won Best Action/Adventure Film. Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actor and Actress for Killer Joe and The Hunger Games, respectively. Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for The Dark Knight Rises.
For the television awards, Breaking Bad won the most with three, taking home prizes for Best Presentation on Television, Best Actor on Television for Bryan Cranston as Walter White and Best Supporting Actor on Television for Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmentraut. First-year show Revolution won Best Network Television Series while The Walking Dead won Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series.
Other TV winners included Kevin Bacon for The Following, who also won Best Actor on Television, Anna Torv as Best Actress on Television for Fringe and Laurie Holden for Best Supporting Actress on Television for The Walking Dead.
"From zombies and super-heroes to some of the best science-fiction stories ever created and the most awesome images of fantasy ever seen, this was a truly phenomenal year for genre entertainment, which is now the very heart of the entire entertainment industry," said Robert Holguin, Academy President. "The Academy of Science Fiction, Horror & Fantasy Films is truly delighted to be able to honor such fine achievements."
