Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas was arrested late last night after he was pulled over by California Highway Patrol for speeding, and the police discovered a bountiful amount of illegal fireworks in his truck, TMZ reported.

Arenas was stopped by the authorities while driving his Ford pickup truck, which was packed with fireworks. The fireworks were in plain sight on the bed of the truck, according to a source in the report. Arenas was allegedly arrested and charged with possession of illegal fireworks and was cited for speeding. He was reportedly driving at 80 miles per hour without a license.

The stash of fireworks was so exorbitant that the LAPD bomb squad was summoned to the scene to assist in the seizure of the explosive goods. A TMZ photographer counted approximately 20 boxes of the fireworks, as they were being carefully removed from Arenas' truck by the authorities.

A TMZ cameraman captured the arrest on tape and in the video Arenas can be seen sitting on the curb smiling with the police offices, until he was placed in handcuffs and placed in a police cruiser. Footage also shows the police officers carrying boxes of fireworks from Arena's Ford truck.

Arenas has dealt with legal issues before. In 2009, while he was a member of the Washington Wizards, the three-time NBA All-Star, drew a gun on teammate Javaris Crittenton in the team's locker room. Crittenton also produced a weapon during the dispute over a gambling debt. Arenas was eventually convicted of gun charges stemming from the incident. He spent 30 days in a halfway house for the crime and was eventually traded by the Wizards.

Arenas is currently signed to the Shanghai Sharks team in China and his last stint in the NBA was for the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2011-2012 season.
