In news that fans have surely been awaiting for quite some time now, the film adaptation of E.L. James' 50 Shades of Grey now has an official release date, which is August 1, 2014.

Focus Features, the studio behind the racy flick, recently took to Facebook to make the highly coveted announcement, as the page put out the following:

"The global release of Fifty Shades of Grey will start in North America on Friday, August 1st, 2014 with opening dates around the world to be announced. The Focus Features domestic theatrical release will be in theaters nationwide. Universal Pictures International is releasing the movie in the rest of the world."

Interestingly enough, James Gunn's Guardians of The Galaxy is slated to come out on the same day, and will have a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Benicio Del Toro, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, and Glenn Close, amongst a slew of others.

In other 50 Shades happenings, Sam Taylor-Johnson was recently attached to direct the respective flick.

According to Deadline, Taylor-Johnson, who directed Nowhere Boy about the Beetles' John Lennon, brought an end to a search that initially started in June 2012. The website also mentioned that Anna Karenina's Joe Wright was a top candidate to direct, but his schedule wouldn't be able to fit 50 Shades.
