Tina Turner Reveals She Still Has Dreams About Abusive Ex Ike Turner
It’s been decades since Tina Turner’s tumultuous relationship with the now late Ike Turner was her reality. Still, the iconic singer revealed she’s dealing with the traumatic marriage.
Tina Turner Talks Forgiving And Dreaming About Ike Turner
Tina opened up about her past with Ike in a candid interview recently.
“As an old person, I have forgiven him, but it would not work with him,” said Tina. “He asked for one more tour with me, and I said, ‘No, absolutely not.’ Ike wasn’t someone you could forgive and allow him back in. It’s all gone, all forgotten.”
Tina went on to say that she still has dreams about Ike, who passed away more than 10 years ago. She said she’s uncertain what the dreams mean or why she’s still having them as she’s no longer dealing with the dangerous side of Ike.
“I wonder if I’m still holding something in,” added Tina.
In the past, Ike never admitted to “beating” Tina, but in his autobiography, he said he slapped and punched her. Tina, who is getting ready to release a memoir of her own, said that Ike got physical out of fear that she would walk out of his life for good. She said she could take him being unfaithful with other women, but drew the line with “the constant, constant ill-treatment.”
How She Got Out
Still, she stayed with Ike because of the vow she made to him in their 1962 wedding, and because he was a major part of her singing career. A turning point came when she started working with music mogul Phil Spector, in 1965. He gave Ike $20,000 to steer clear of the studio when Tina was recording. While Ike was nearly out of her music career, he wasn’t out of her life until 1976 when she arrived at a Dallas Ramada Inn covered in blood. Her story made it to the big screen in the major film What's Love Got To Do With It, starring Angela Bassett.
She went on to find love with Erin Bach, who is a music executive from Germany. They met in 1985 and tied the knot in 2013.
Tina also spoke on modern-day abuse as women call out movie executive Harvey Weinstein for sexual misconduct and abuse. She said while it’s been going on for years, no one really ever gets away with it.
Tina is also mother to two boys. One of her sons is with Ike, the other is from a relationship before Ike. Interestingly enough, Tina often stays quiet about her children.
Meanwhile, her music still gets major recognition today.
