Drew Barrymore Shows Jake Gyllenhaal Some Love After Ranking Him 'Least Talented'
Drew Barrymore wants the world to know that she loves Jake Gyllenhaal, despite calling him her least talented costar a few days ago.
It might seem strange to see an A-list Hollywood star carrying a sign professing her love to another star on the red carpet, but Barrymore had no qualms about it during the premiere of the second season of Santa Clarita Diet.
Spilling Her Guts On Television
Barrymore, 43, played "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts" in The Late Late Show with James Corden where she was asked to divulge how she ranks the acting prowess of past male costars: Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko), Hugh Grant (Music and Lyrics), and Adam Sandler (The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Blended).
As per the rules of the game, the actress would have to eat a heaping of turkey testicle if she chose not to answer the question. Needless to say, she was not keen on chowing down the strange fare in front of her.
"Jake Gyllenhaal, so I don't have to eat a turkey's ball," Barrymore blurts out almost instantly, not even ranking the actors at first. She quickly adds, "When I run into him next time, I'll be like, 'Dude, it was like selling you down the river or eating turkey's balls.'"
"And by the way, I don't even care if he hates me," she continues during the show, adding her final ranking of the three actors from best to worst: Sandler, Grant, and Gyllenhaal as the least talented among the trio.
To be fair, Gyllenhaal was young and fresh on the scene when they shared the screen in the 2001 film Donnie Darko. Since then, the actor has put in celebrated roles in Brokeback Mountain, Nightcrawler, and Nocturnal Animals.
Making Amends To Her Costar
It's to make up for her unintended diss on her former costar that Barrymore brought an "I love Jake Gyllenhaal" sign during the Santa Clarita Diet premiere.
"I woke up to headlines everywhere that I think he's the least talented person I've ever worked with," she tells Associated Press per the Hollywood Reporter. "I guess people are just desperate for a headline."
"Everybody get a life," Barrymore concludes.
During her appearance at Corden's show, the Never Been Kissed actress also spoke about her fluctuating weight and her cheeky response to a stranger who called her pregnant.
"I just looked at her and go, 'No, I'm just fat right now,'" she recalls her answer to the stranger.
