Mariah Carey's Ex-Fiancé James Packer Is 'Suffering From Mental Health Issues'
It’s been a while since fans heard anything about Mariah Carey’s former fiancé, James Packer. New reports revealed he checked in to a mental facility recently.
Inside His Emotional Breakdown
“Mr. Packer is suffering from mental health issues,” said one of his representatives in a statement. “At this time he intends to step back from all commitments.”
It appears that Packer, who was previously the casino operator for the world’s seventh largest casino company, Crown Resorts, has been on a downward spiral for quite some time. His legal troubles went public last month after police named him as a witness in an ongoing bribery investigation. The case is looking into any potential illegal business dealings by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Prior to that, Packer admitted that he has had a rough last few years, to say the least. Along with his breakup from Carey, the Crown Resorts casino was in a tumultuous state of its own.
Packer is reportedly receiving treatment at a mental hospital in the United States.
Mariah's History With James
Carey and Packer went public with their relationship in June 2015. They met at the premiere for Hercules the year before. Interestingly enough, they walked the red carpet for the first time at a different movie premiere for The Intern in 2015.
Their whirlwind romance continued when Packer proposed to Carey in January 2016.
Carey made clear what she thought about the engagement ring when she said, “It’s so heavy I can’t lift my arm up!”
She sang a different tune when they broke up in October 2016. While they never tied the knot, they had to come to an agreement on how to handle their funds. For starters, Packer popped the question with a 35-carat diamond engagement ring that was said to be worth roughly $10 million.
Carey was ultimately awarded $5-10 million in the breakup. The amount included the engagement ring. The singer allegedly wanted $50 million for her relocation to Los Angeles for Packer.
“I was at a low point in my personal life,” said the billionaire of the failed romance. “She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.”
Mariah Has Moved On
As for Carey, while she might have written a song about Packer, she reportedly got back with her ex-husband and father of her twins, Nick Cannon, before dating one of her background dancers, Bryan Tanaka.
