Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan 'Lovingly' Separate After 8-Year Marriage
Another couple bites the dust! Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announce their mutual decision to part ways after eight years of marriage.
Tatum and Dewan, both 37, met on the set of the 2006 dance movie Step Up. They've been together since and tied the knot in July 2009.
Tatum, Dewan Reveal Their Split
In Hollywood years, eight years feels like forever, so it comes as a shock to many when Tatum announced the couple's split on his official Twitter account.
Although the pair was hesitant in sharing details of their relationship, they didn't want their actions and words to get distorted. Tatum reveals that they're sharing their statement so that people would know that "if you didn't read it here then it's most certainly fiction."
"We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple," he continues. "There are no secrets nor salicious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it's time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible."
The Magic Mike actor stresses that the two of them are committed in being loving, dedicated parents to their daughter Everly, 4.
No Relationship Is Perfect, Says Dewan
Dewan talked to Health about their relationship just last February, dismissing the belief that her marriage to Tatum is perfect just because it looks that way in front of the camera.
"When people say you guys have such a perfect life, I want to scream and tell them no one's perfect," she admits. "I think there are such things as great fits. It is a great fit as long as you are growing together, and I think up until this point we've really grown together." The actress goes on to say that each couple needs to consciously make the effort to examine the parts of them that need work.
"Both of us have been pretty aware and willing to do that. We've always had the same values," Dewan explains. "But we're not perfect! Are you kidding? We fight like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don't really like each other."
Social Media Melts Down
The statement on Tatum's Twitter account says the couple aren't planning on revealing more details about their split, but the Twitterverse is falling apart with the announcement. Multiple social media users took to Twitter to express their disappointment as one of Hollywood's fairy-tale romances come to an end.
