Chris Brown opened up the 2013 BET Awards which premiered on BET 8 p.m. Eastern Time, at the Nokia Theater and featured a special performance with Nicki Minaj.

The 24-year-old Grammy Award-winning star performed a medley of hits, featuring Fine China, They Don't Know featuring the late Aaliyah and a new song with Minaj.

The awards show featured a tech-savvy Skype app, that featured a fan on the top of the screen watching the show live.

Comedian Chris Tucker, hosted the show.

Enstars reported earlier that the nominations for the 2013 BET Awards were announced on May 14 at an event hosted by Chris Brown, with Tamar Braxton and this year's honoree Charlie Wilson.
