Kendrick Lamar has been praised amongst hardcore rap fans before breaking into the consciousness of a wider audience with the release of his debut album good kid, m.A.A.d city.

The Dr. Dre protege has been labeled as one of rap's most promising new voices and has collaborated with the likes of Jay-Z and Drake. Lamar was named the Hottest MC in the Game by MTV in early 2013.

The Compton native took the 2013 BET award stage with a performance that was sprinkled with West Coast influences. His set featured the staple one-story house featured in films like Boyz n the Hood and Menace II Society and two platforms which supported his DJ and live band. The performance featured a surprise guest--the incomparable Erykah Badu.

The Next Lifetime singer joined Lamar to perform his smash hit B***h, Don't Kill My Vibe. Badu's soulful voice accentuated the mellow tune perfectly.

Lamar seemed to enjoy Badu's presence as the two held hands and walked to the prop house at the back of the stage and sat on its steps as his set drew to a close.
