Anna Faris is starring in the upcoming comedy Overboard opposite Eugenio Derbez. The film is a remake of the 1987 original that starred Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.

While this isn't the first film to tackle a classic and put a new spin on, this is a rare occasion where the original stars get involved.

Faris opened up in an interview about the film and her dinner date with Hawn and Russell as well as their thoughts on the remake that will be hitting theaters in May 2018.

Goldie And Kurt Chat With Anna

The House Bunny star spoke with Today about her latest project and her encounter with the Hollywood couple.

"I had a run-in with Kurt and Goldie, and Kurt said, 'So we're taking you to dinner because we hear that you're doin' our movie,'" Faris stated. The actress continued that she was "terrified" to have dinner with Hawn and Russell.

"And they told us about their experiences of falling in love and being on that movie and how exciting it was for them to be together," she continued.

In the end, Hawn and Russell gave Faris and Derbez the "okay" for the film, much to the relief of Faris.

"By the end, Goldie said, 'Okay, we give you our blessing,'" Faris said.

A Love Story Reimagined

Ironically, the original Overboard film is what brought Hawn and Russell together. The First Wives Club actress and The Hateful Eight star began a relationship after falling in love while filming the movie and have been together ever since.

The two have one biological child together, Wyatt, and Russell helped raise Hawn's two children, Kate and Oliver Hudson, from her marriage to Bill Hudson. To this day, Kate and Oliver consider Russell their father and have a strain with Bill.

For the 2018 remake, the roles in the film are reversed as Faris will play the hardworking mom of three who tricks Derbez's character, a wealthy bachelor, into thinking that they are married after he gets amnesia from falling off his boat.

The film also stars Eva Longoria, Swoosie Kurtz, and John Hannah.
