Jiah Khan Death News Update, Boyfriend Suraj Pancholi Bailed But Must Report to Police Every 2 Days
The Mumbai high court freed actor Suraj Pancholi on bail Monday after he was arrested last month in connection to the suicide of his girlfriend.
The court ordered Pancholi, 22, not to leave the country and report to police every other day, according to BBC News. His passport was taken away from him. A judge ruled that Pancholi could not be held solely responsible for the "impulsive" act by 25-year-old actress Jiah Khan, who hung herself in her Mumbai apartment on June 3.
Pancholi, the son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was Khan's boyfriend. He arrest was based on Khan's suicide letter, which described the couple's troubled relationship. He was arrested with the suspicion that he abetted Khan's suicide, compelling her to take her own life. Pancholi was arrested after the star's mother, Rabiya Khan, accused him of abusing her daughter.
"No doubt that it was an unfortunate incident that a young girl has committed suicide. She [Jiah Khan] must have been impulsive and he [Suraj Pancholi] cannot be held solely responsible for it," Justice Sadhna Jadhav said, cited by The Times of India.
In Khan's six-page suicide she accused an unnamed person of "ruining her life." The court said that Khan's letter could not be taken as a suicide note as it was not addressed to anyone and was not dated. In addition, Pancholi "never nurtured an intent or motive to push the girl to commit suicide," the judge said.
"She [Khan] was in the relationship on her own volition. It all depends on the psyche of the person. It cannot be ignored that Jiah [Khan] had suicidal tendencies. Earlier also she had attempted suicide and it was the applicant [Mr Pancholi] who took care of her," Justice Jadhav said.
