Johnny Depp, Amber Heard Relationship: Vanessa Paradis Split Details, 'Lone Ranger' Actor Opens Up, Focuses on Children VIDEO
Johnny Depp recently opened up about his split from Vanessa Paradis and how his children are handling their parent's breakup.
"We were just very truthful with them and they were just incredibly understanding, incredibly accepting," Depp explained to CBS's This Morning. "I was extremely proud of them, the way they dealt with it."
Depp and Paradis have raised two children together, 14-year-old Lily-Rose and 11-year-old Jack. The Lone Ranger actor believes it is best to be truthful with his children and this issue was no different for Depp.
"When you have children, there is no room for lies, no room for anything but the truth," he said, according to CBS. "Anything other than that is a bad example, I believe."
After a 14-year relationship, the 50-year-old Depp told Rolling Stone that he found it difficult to deal with splitting from 40-year-old Paradis but put his children first.
"The last couple years have been a bit bumpy," Depp told Rolling Stone. "At times, certainly unpleasant, but that's the nature of breakups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved."
Despite the inherent difficulties and ill-will created during the course of a breakup, Depp believes that it is important to keep things amiable.
"So for whatever reason that [relationship] ceases, it doesn't stop the fact that you care for that person, and they're the mother of your kids, and you'll always know each other, and you're always gonna be in each other's lives because of those kids," Depp told the magazine. "You might as well make the best of it."
Depp can currently be seen in The Lone Ranger.
