Katy Perry Thinks Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress Could Have Used One More Fitting
Katy Perry joins the chorus of criticism of Meghan Markle's wedding dress. The singer thinks the Duchess wore an ill-fitting gown.
Telling It Like It Is
The 33-year-old American Idol judge was speaking to ET Sunday when she made the proclamation. Perry was midway through the show's final at the time.
"I would have done one more fitting. I'm never not going to tell the truth! One more fitting, but I love you," she said of Markle's Givenchy gown.
The pop star added that she thought Kate Middleton nailed it back in 2011 when she wore an Alexander McQueen dress to wed Prince William. In her view, Middleton easily won the battle of the brides.
Markle's gown was pure white with a boat neck, designed to emphasize her slim shoulders. British designer Clare Waight Keller, the first female artistic director of Givenchy, created Markle's wedding dress.
Markle reportedly chose to work closely with Keller since she is known for timeless pieces reeking of elegant aesthetic.
Wishing Them The Best
Although Perry wasn't a fan of Markle's dress, she's still very happy for the newlywed couple.
"I'm so happy for them, and ... it's amazing what she's doing with all this, her humanitarian efforts ... The fact that she's a proud feminist, I love all that. I support her as another woman and love her and wish them both well," she gushed.
Fellow Idol judge Lionel Richie also gave his opinion on the royal wedding, which was one of the biggest events of the year thus far.
"I remember when [Princess Diana] had them ... and it was amazing. Now to see them both married and kids, well not yet, but married. She would be very proud," he added, in relation to Princes William and Harry.
Truly In Love
One person who was impressed with Markle's dress was her now husband, Prince Harry, who melted hearts all over the world when he was caught mouthing that she looked "amazing" before biting his lip when the two first met at the altar.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their engagement in November of last year. They were married on Saturday in front of 600 guests, with more than 29 million viewers watching the ceremony on live television all around the world.
The celebrations continued at a luncheon hosted by Queen Elizabeth, where Elton John performed, followed by an evening reception attended by 200 guests at Frogmore House, which culminated in a romantic fireworks display.
Markle changed into a high-neck Stella McCartney gown for the reception. The lily-white silk crepe gown was accessorized with Aquazzura heels with blue soles, for her Something Blue, and a ring from Princess Diana's private collection, as previously rumored.
