Johnny Depp Faces Lawsuit After Allegedly Punching Film Location Manager On Set
Johnny Depp's legal troubles continue apace as he is being sued for punching a crew member while in production on the upcoming movie, City of Lies.
Difficult Work Environment
Court documents filed by Gregg "Rocky" Brooks in L.A. Monday reveal that the actor allegedly punched the complainant in the ribs while he was on a foul-mouthed tirade against him. The incident took place outside the Barclay hotel.
The complaint also alleges Depp stank of alcohol and was spotted visibly taking drugs while on set. His bodyguards were even forced to remove him at one point, Brooks claims.
The location manager claims Depp verbally and physically assaulted him, before offering $100,000 to punch him in the face in return.
He is seeking unspecified damages from Depp, City of Lies director Brad Furman, producer Miriam Furman, and production companies Good Film Productions and Infinitum Nihil, which was founded by Depp.
Nobody Puts Johnny In A Corner
The court documents state that the altercation, which took place in April 2017, kicked off when Brooks attempted to enforce curfew restrictions on the cast and crew.
According to the location manager, they had permission to film until 7 p.m. outside the hotel, and until 10 p.m. inside, but production overran on the day.
After the curfew was extended once, Brooks was told filming had to halt. Director Furham allegedly told him to tell Depp, who yelled that he has no right to tell him what to do. The actor then allegedly punched Brooks twice in the ribs.
The claim also alleges Brooks was fired as location manager after refusing to sign a declaration stating he wouldn't sue the production company over the incident.
City of Lies explores the LAPD investigation into the 1997 murder of rapper Biggie Smalls. It's due to hit theaters in September.
Brooks's case is just the latest in a long list of legal problems currently faced by Depp. The actor is the subject of a recent damning Rolling Stone profile, which painted him as out of touch, broke, and completely isolated.
He is currently embroiled in a legal battle with his ex-managers and is suing his former lawyers for allegedly cheating him out of millions of dollars. His former bodyguards are also suing him in relation to a toxic work environment.
Depp divorced fellow actor Amber Heard back in January, following widespread allegations of domestic abuse against him. His lawyers denied all claims, and the Pirates of the Caribbean star has never publicly commented on the matter. Heard donated her winnings in the case to charity.
