Kevin Hart will host the third annual Philly 4th of July Jam, as part of the Wawa Welcome America! Festival, and fans across the U.S. as well as the world can watch the live stream online or the telecast on VH1.
Veteran hip-hop band and Philadelphia natives, The Roots, are responsible for putting the show together. Other local artists such as Jill Scott will perform at the concert as well as special guests J. Cole, John Mayer and several others. Local product comedian Kevinn Hart will host the live event.
"We are excited to bring Kevin back home to Philly to host the Largest Free Concert event in America", said show Executive Producer Shawn Gee. "With Kevin, The Roots and Jill Scott, the show will definitely have a Philly flair to it, however with the other great talent on the show, this is guaranteed to be the best Philly Fourth of July show ever.
The concert is widely regarded as the largest free music concert in the country. The show also includes a July 4th traditional fireworks display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Some 500,000 people are expected to attend the show, which is held on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
Last night, a pre-show to kick off the event featured D'Angelo and Questlove. The artists played an intimate show at Philadelphia's Theater of the Living Arts and ushered in the 4th of July holiday with their set, which started just before midnight. The sold-out event billed as "Brothers in Arms," lasted more than 90 minutes and attendees were treated to several D'Angelo classics as well as covers from soul icons such as Bobby Womack, Prince and Sly & the Family Stone.
Be sure to watch the live stream of Questlove and The Roots at the Philly 4th of July Jam at 8 p.m. ET.
