Indeed, it is hard to image how dispiriting it could have been for Liam Payne after his failure to get help for his mental health despite being recognized internationally.

At the early age of 14, Payne stepped into the spotlight through "The X-Factor" before he became a member of the popular boy band "One Direction" in 2010.

Payne once told Men's Health Australia about the negative experience he had when he was still working with One Direction. He revealed that doing concerts over and over again required them to still perform even when they were not happy anymore.

Liam even compared the feeling of hopelessness to wearing a Disney costume before going to the center stage because he looked so pissed. He got upset about himself since he could not find a way to escape.

For 12 years, the "Strip That Down" singer already attained numerous awards and recognitions both as a group member and a soloist. But sadly, everything did not help him in any way to get through depression.

Describing fame as "having a midlife crisis", Payne explained briefly about his expeirence in "Ant Middleton and Liam Payne: Straight Talking" on Nov. 12. Payne, suprisingly, told the host that he was lucky to still be doing the interview and performing.

The 26-year-old star revealed that he questioned himself numerous times if he could really get over his struggles and depression. Those struggles became the reason behind his numerous thoughts on "acting on it."

"Yeah, when I've been in a bad place. It's one hundred percent, you know. There's no point denying it - it's definitely been on the menu a couple of times in my life," Payne replied to Middleton when asked if he ever wanted "to act on it."

Ever since he became part of One Direction (with Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Harry Styles) until they went on hiatus, fame turned into something like a burden to Liam.

Struggling Without Cheryl?

Aside from sharing his life story, Payne also mentioned his ex-partner Cheryl Cole whom he had a now two-year-old child.

Payne sent his wishes to Cheryl after he shared that she deserves all the great things in this world since she is a great mother. Liam also publicized that he hopes Cheryl can finally find happiness, even though it is hard for him to see his ex move on with someone else.

"Putting that happy smile on my face and singing the songs - sometimes it was like putting on one of those costumes and, underneath the costume, people don't see what's going on," Payne stated.

It was surely tough for Liam to reach where he is now mentally, but fans were glad that he did.
