Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals Difficult Relationship with Tupac: 'We're An Anchor For Each Other'
Jada Pinkett Smith once again opened up about her rumored ex-boyfriend and late rapper, Tupac Shakur.
Pinkett Smith could not stop the tears from falling as she discussed her complicated relationship with the rapper on her Facebook Watch Show "Red Table Talk" on Monday.
Jada was joined by Robyn Crawford, and both talked about loving someone who was struggling in the spotlight.
This follows the release of Crawford's book "A Song For You," which details her love affair with Whitney Houston.
The talk-show host said that the process of reading the book was healing.
"When you said the book is a love letter to Whitney, that resonated as so powerful. It was so healing for me in so many different ways," Pinkett Smith continued. "It's hard to live with someone who had a legacy at the level she has had and then to lose them under tragic circumstances. I have a very similar situation."
Pinkett Smith then shared a story of how complicated her relationship with the "Dear Mama" rapper was.
"Because of the complex relationship with Pac in those moments of his, 'Who's that?!', knowing damn well there ain't nothing like that between us," the 48-year-old acress said. "Him feeling like, 'You're the only stability I got, I can't afford for you to put the attention elsewhere.' For him, we were an anchor for each other."
"Anytime he felt like that anchor was threatened, oh my God!"
Both ladies agreed that it was not jealousy, but just being their late lovers "possessiveness and protectiveness."
"It's a lot of things I didn't understand while I was in with Pac," Pinkett Smith said.
In the past, the "Gotham" actress had revealed that she and Tupac fought before his death over her fear that he was on a destructive path. When Tupac was gunned down in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, they were not talking.
Talking to MTV years ago, Pinkett Smith said: "There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about Pac. I think about him every single day."
Pinkett Smith, however, denied long-running rumors that they were romantically involved, even after marrying actor Will Smith in 1997.
Pinkett Smith told Howard Stern in 2015, "It wasn't even just for me. It was for him too."
The actress said that she and Tupac lacked "physical chemistry" but did kiss each other once and did not go anywhere.
"There was a time when I was like, 'Just kiss me. Let's see how this goes..' And when I tell you, it had to be the most disgusting kiss for us both. The only way I can put it is, the higher power did not want that."
The two attended the same performing arts school during their younger years and remained close until the rapper's tragic death.
