Royalty is a ‘'Life Sentence', Says Archbishop of Canterburry
With all the issues that the Royal Family has been facing for the past years, it is safe to say that being part of it is not easy.
In the past decades, royal watchers have hailed Queen Elizabeth II as a savior since she witnessed the most scandals surrounding the family and made sure to take the best steps to resolve it.
Some members may deserve the consequences they faced after their involvement in massive issues such as Prince Andrew, However, there is one person from the royal family who does not deserve all the abuse.
'A Person of Profound Humanity'
The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has blocked all claims aimed at destroying the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, since the day she married Prince Harry and became a royal.
The royal couple encountered issues and allegations in the past years, especially after the sensitive statements they said while filming their documentary during their tour in South Africa.
The archbishop described Markle as someone with "profound humanity and deep concern for people." He has always seen the Duchess of Sussex that way after officiating her wedding with Prince Harry last year.
In an interview with Radio Five Live, presenter Emma Barnette asked his stand on people calling Meghan a racist.
The Archbishop of Canterbury started by saying that he became "immensely concerned" about the behavior since Markle is someone he truly knows, and he thought she is undeserving to be called like that.
"These sorts of portrayals of her you sometimes see... she's a person of profound humanity, and deep concern for people, seeking to carry out her role with every ounce of her being, and I think she's a remarkable person," the Archbishop went on.
After seeing all the trolling and abuse that Markle dealt and is still dealing with, the archbishop said that being a member of the royal family is like receiving a "life sentence" because of all the "absolutely terrible" abuses and criticisms that they get.
The Archbishop also opened up that while members of the royal family have certain privileges that comes with their position, it is never easy and is, in fact, a lifetime commitment.
Even when the members decided to quit and step out of the palace with nothing on their hands, they would still be haunted by people. Put simply, it would be an eternal engagement they have to face even when they do not want it.
Not the First Time
It is not the first time, however, that the Archbishop stood for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Welby spoke up for them in his conversation with The Time last month regarding the backslash the royal couple received after they announced about taking a break from royal duties.
"They are entitled to take time off because they are not superhuman," he said, referring to the pressure inside the palace which nobody, except for them, will ever know.
