Macy's 4th of July Fireworks: Mariah Carey '#Beautiful' Performance [VIDEO]
Mariah Carey showed her patriotism by performing at the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular in New York on Independence day.
The 43-year-old kicked off the night in a red gown singing a rendition of America the Beautiful. Miguel then joined Carey onstage to sing their collaboration #Beautiful. During the performance, the mother of two wore a pink shirt and sat on a hay stack. Her last song of the night was her classic 1993 hit Hero.
"We come together in good times and bad. Hurricane Sandy, the tornado in Oklahoma and the bombings in Boston have all tested us recently but we continue to open our hearts and help in extraordinary ways," she said right before beginning her final performance. "This next song is a tribute to all the heroes who make us so proud."
The event was hosted by her husband and America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon. While introducing her, Cannon called his wife "incomparable" and "beautiful." He also took to Twitter to speak about his spouse.
"Now my baby is just showing off," he wrote during the performance.
After her segment, Carey tweeted a message of her own to her Twitter followers.
"Thank you so much for all the comments about Hero. Grateful to spend the fourth of July in unity. Feels #Beautiful," she wrote.
Carey is also gearing up to release her next album The Art of Letting Go. For the upcoming record, she's been working on material with Jermaine Dupri, Bryan Michael Cox, Big Jim Wright, Hit-Boy, The-Dream, Mike Will Made It and Rodney Jerkins. She also made a song with some of her American Idol friends --Candice Glover, Kree Harrison and Angie Miller.
The Art of Letting Go will be the follow-up to Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, which the star released in 2009. It peaked at No. 3 on Billboard.
