Zimmerman is facing a possible conviction for the 2012 murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teen he shot and killed in what he claimed was self-defense.

Judge Debra Nelson stormed out of Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial, which lasted 13 hours on Tuesday. She abruptly called a recess after Zimmerman's defense attorneys' questioned her 8 a.m. start time for today's hearing and argued about her decisions regarding requests for admissible evidence.

"I'm not getting into this. Court is in recess," Judge Nelson said Tuesday night at 10 p.m. EST, according to Mail Online.

Earlier in the hearing on Tuesday, Zimmerman's defense attorneys called in an expert on gunshot wounds. Dr. Vincent Di Maio, a pathologist, testified that Zimmerman's version of the events from the day he killed Martin is consistent with forensic evidence. Zimmerman said the teenager was on top of him during their fight when he shot him.

"Mr. Martin was over him, leaning forward at the time he was shot," said Di Maio, according to Huffington Post.

The former chief medical examiner, based in San Antonio, also confirmed the defense attorney's argument that the clothes Martin wore the night he was shot is not a good source for evidence because they were wet from the rain and were placed in plastic bags instead of paper bags. Key samples required for forensic examination were therefore ruined

On Wednesday morning when Day 12 began, Judge Nelson denied Zimmerman's attorneys' requests to have Martin's phone text messages and Facebook posts used as evidence. She also denied their request to show the defense's computer-animated simulation of the events that unfolded between Zimmerman and Martin the day he was shot.

Zimmerman is facing second-degree murder charges in the trial, which began on June 24. Zimmerman wasn't arrested for Martin's killing, initially, which sparked protests around the country. The chief of Sanford's police department resigned amid the backlash. Zimmerman was eventually arrested and charged 44 days after the shooting on April 11, 2012.
