Cory Monteith Dead: Was the 'Glee' Star Considering Marrying Girlfriend Lea Michele?
Prior to his death, Corey Monteith and girlfriend Lea Michele may have been preparing to take their relationship to the next level.
Some sources close to the couple are claiming that the Glee stars were planning on tying the knot, according to People. While sources some claim that the pair were not actually engaged, others state that they were actively talking about marriage.
Monteith was discovered dead in the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver on Saturday when he failed to check out. Following an autopsy on Monday, it was determined that the 31-year-old died of mixed-drug toxicity involving elements of heroin and alcohol, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actor had a history of substance abuse and checked himself into rehab last March.
The couple had been dating for over a year at the time of Monteith's death. The 26-year-old actress released a statement on Tuesday regarding the incident.
"Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she's received from family, friends and fans. Since Cory's passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them," said the statement, according to People. "They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together."
Fox reports that sources who saw the couple together at the June 8 12th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball said they seemed happy together at what was ultimately their last formal appearance together.
