Rose Byrne might be joining the star-studded cast of Annie for the remake of the hit musical.

Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the Bridesmaids star is in talks to be playing the role of Grace Farrell in Sony's upcoming remake.

As Grace Farrell, the Bridesmaids star would act as the assistant to New York financier Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks. Played by Jamie Foxx, Warbucks' character will be called 'Benjamin Stack' in the modern-day film.

In the end of June, it was also announced that Cameron Diaz signed on to play Miss Hannigan, the main villain in the film. Like her role in Bad Teacher, the 40-year-old actress will be bossing around little kids-- only this time they are orphans.

As far as the lead character goes, Quvenzhane Wallis will play Annie. The 9-year-old actress, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Beasts of the Sourthern Wild, has all the qualities needed for the starring role.

"She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can't wait for audiences to further discover her," Columbia Pictures' Hannah Minghella said in a statement about Wallis.

Annie will be directed by Will Gluck, whose producing credits include Easy A and Friends with Benefits, and will be produced by rapper Jay-Z and actor Will Smith. The movie is due for a Christmas Day 2014 release.
