Kanye West took to Twitter on July 20 to assert that the second verse of his song New Slaves reigns supreme in hip-hop history.

"I open the debate... The 2nd verse of New Slaves is the best rap verse of all time....meaning ... OF ALL TIME IN THE HISTORY OF RAP MUSIC, PERIOD," West tweeted.

The debate, however, has predominantly dismissed West's claims about the song from his Yeezus album. Several Twitter users either poked fun at the rapper's tweet or criticized his conceit.

"‪@kanyewest Imma let you finish but Nicki Minaj's Monster verse is the greatest rap verse of all time," tweeted @BARBIE5STAR.

Others pointed out specific aspects of West's verse on New Slaves to challenge his point.

"‪@kanyewest You rhymed "I see blood on the leaves" with "I see blood on the leaves". Worse than Rick Ross rhyming 'Atlantic' with 'Atlantic'" wrote @ammar4.

Some of the Chicago-born rapper's peers even weighed in on the conversation.

""my mans kanye is f**king wild i dont agree but i fully back him and his mind," said rapper Earl Sweatshirt, of the group Odd Future.

West's tweet came just a day after he was involved in yet another fracas with a paparazzo on July 19 at the LAX airport in Los Angeles, CA. Some have said the tweet was West's attempt to sway attention from his run-in with the photographer, who needed to be treated by paramedics after the rapper wrestled him to the ground.

TMZ reported on Friday that the photographer plans to press charges against West. The site claimed cops are labeling the case a felony attempted robbery - not an assault - because West seemed like he was trying to confiscate the paparazzo's camcorder, according to TMZ's law enforcement sources.
