Demi Lovato: 'I'm So Overprotective' Of Miley Cyrus, 'X Factor' Judge Says
Demi Lovato has been Miley Cyrus' friend long before she started twerking, and the X Factor judge admits that she's a bit overprotective of her pal.
"She knows how I feel about the whole partying thing," Lovato told MTV News in a Monday report. "I love her to death and I'm always like, 'Just be careful' and she's like, 'Dude, I'm chilling. It's fine.' But I care for her so much that I'm so protective, but she's good. She's got a good head on her shoulders."
Their friendship stems from their Disney days when Cyrus played Hannah Montana and Lovato starred in the series As The Bell Rings. Now their careers have taken off and the 20-year-olds are up against each other for the same awards.
The two are both in the running for Best Female Video at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Lovato is nominated for her hit Heart Attack while Cyrus is up for her latest song We Can't Stop. Still, Lovato doesn't seem to put much stock into competing against Cyrus. She gushed to MTV about her love for We Can't Stop.
"I think it's a good song," she said. "It's a song a lot of people have fun to and if people are enjoying it, then great."
Lovato previously revealed that Cyrus is one of the few people who have stood by her side when it mattered the most.
"You know, people in my life -- like Selena (Gomez) and Nick (Jonas) and Miley, even -- they've all been there for me during really hard times," she recently told The Huffington Post. "I like to surround myself with people who understand where I am in my life and that have my best interests at heart."
Despite their close friendship, they have had their fair share of fights in the past and when they do the arguments are callous.
"When we fight it's brutal and we're like, 'We're never going to be friends again. Then two days later, were like, 'I love you and I miss you,'" Lovato told Seventeen in 2012.
