While the world awaits for a first name for Kate Middleton's new baby boy, Prince William's surname may be linked to their son's name.

William is usually referred to by his first name or his title, the Duke of Cambridge. However, the his official surname is Wales, after the name of his royal house.

According to BBC News, a surname is not required for the royal baby's last name. It is possibe that it coule be Wales or Cambridge, or Mountbatten-Windsor, the two-for-one surname of Prince Philip, who got the name Mountbatten for his maternal grandparents, and the queen, whose father, King George V, selected Windsor for his family in 1917.

Though the name has yet to make its way to the public, thousands have already banked on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge deciding on a traditional name for their son.

According to Sky Bet, George is the favorite at odds of 9/4, with James at 11/4.

Alexander, Louis and Henry also made the list of top choices for those placing bets at the bookmaker.

Queen Elizabeth holds the right to make the last decision on royal baby's chosen name, but whether she will veto Middleton's or William's choice is highly unlikely.

"The Queen is so down to earth that she's not likely to jump up and down and say this boy has got to be called Charles and George. This isn't going to be 'Granny, do you approve?' but more 'These are the names we've chosen - do you like them?' It's much more of a personal thing these days," a source told the The Daily Mail.

No matter what the royal baby's name is, he will be called His Majesty.

Both William and Middleton recently released an official statement thanking St. Mary's Hospital for its help in delivering their baby boy..
