They celebrated Independence Day together and now Katy Perry and John Mayer were spotted on a romantic dinner date.

The pair dined at The Tower Bar & Terrace restaurant within the Sunset Tower Hotel in California on Tuesday. Perry wore dark lipstick and a short black dress, while Mayer was more casual, sporting jeans. The couple appeared very close and happy as they left the restaurant.

The rocker enjoyed the free time away from his Born & Raised tour, but will hit the road again when he performs at California's Sleep Train Amphitheatre on Thursday. Earlier in July, the 35-year-old also performed at the Today show in New York City, during its summer concert series.

While Mayer didn't mention the Teenage Dream singer during his morning show interview, he did talk about his new track Paper Doll. When asked whether the song was written for anyone, Mayer didn't deny or confirm the speculation that it could be for Perry.

"Songwriters write songs because of people, about people," he said. "Anything someone else wrote is their reception of a song, I don't get involved in it, it's none of my business."

Some of song's lyrics include, "You're like twenty-two girls in one and none of them know what they're running from. Was it just too far to fall, for a little paper doll?"

Mayer and Perry started seeing each other in August 2012, after the songstress divorced comedian/actor Russell Brand earlier that year. Despite their split in March, they were allegedly spotted together on Memorial Day 2013.

Still, it's not far-fetched to believe that the former couple has reignited their romance. Perry, 28, told Vogue in the July 2013 issue that she still finds herself "madly in love" with Mayer.

"All I can say about that relationship is that he's got a beautiful mind," she said. "Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds."
