Katy Perry is now the most beloved woman on Twitter.

The pop star accumulated 39.8 million Twitter followers and has surpassed Lady Gaga for having the most followers on the social media website for a female. The Born This Way singer currently has 39.2 million followers, though she was once the most followed on the social network.

The reason for her drop may be because Gaga hasn't been too active on Twitter. She stopped tweeting frequently back in February. The 27-year-old even removed her avatar and her bio reads "This interface has been shutdown temporarily. Please check back for updates."

Her most recent activity includes two re-tweets on Thursday that discuss her upcoming appearance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The star will be performing at the show on Aug. 25 at the Barclay's Center. MTV reporter Sway Calloway made the announcement on Instagram.

Perry, on the other hand, makes sure to tweet as often as she can. She also has a comical bio that reads, "Back to (t)werk."

"What do we stand for? How are we America, united... the beautiful? We should take a long look in the mirror, we need REAL change," she tweeted on July 14.

Her most recent tweets include one about her new fragrance called Killer Queen Own the Throne, which will be released in August. In the perfume's ad, the pop star wears a red gown, black stilettos and a big crown. Another crown, which appears to belong to a king, sits on the floor next to her, demonstrating that Perry is in charge.

Still, Perry hasn't managed to garner more followers than Justin Bieber. The 19-year-old currently has over 42 million "believers" following him, making him the most popular celebrity on Twitter. Bieber often communicates with his fans on the social network and follows more than 100,000 of them. He also always keeps them updated on his professional moves.

"Chicago always does it right! One of the best shows of the tour. I couldn't stop smiling! Thank you beliebers. I love you!" he wrote on July 10.
