The first glimpse of 47 Ronin has finally reached viewers eyes.

Slated to open in November of last year, the first feature film form Carl Rinsch has been delayed twice. With the debut of 47 Ronin's first trailer, the new Christmas release date seems to look more promising.

The film chronicles a fictionalized version of the story of the Japanese samurai group known as the 47 Ronin and their journey to avenge the murder of their master.

Keanu Reeves (Man of Tai Chi) portrays Kai, a half-Japanese half-British outcast who was rescued from slavery by Kuranosuke Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the Ronin. Together the group will fight against the forces of the Shogun (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), and his master of ceremonies, Lord Kira (Tadanobu Asano), who appears to have a magical, mythical aspect at his disposal.

The trailer combines a mixture of heart-pounding swordsmanship and an eerie magical element that is both unsettling and intriguing. Filmed in Budapest, Japan, and London's Shepperton Studios, 47 Ronin looks like it will boast good visual and special effects.

Written by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini, the film's executive producers included Chris Fenton, Walter Hamada, and Erwin Stoff.

47 Ronin will enter theaters on Dec. 25.
