Rapper DMX Arrested For Drunk Driving in South Carolina, Publicist Denies Charges
Rapper DMX has once again found himself on the wrong side of the law, with a DUI charge in South Carolina.
CNN reported on July 26 that Troopers in Greenville said they pulled over the rapper Thursday night while he was driving a 1978 Plymouth station wagon. DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was spotted driving erratically, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. He reportedly was given a field sobriety test and failed.
DMX, 42, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license and driving without a seat belt, authorities said, but the rapper's publicist, Domenick Nati, said he was not arrested for a DUI.
"He was arrested early this morning but quickly released," Nati told CNN about the July 25 incident. "X was given a breathalyzer test and easily passed it. He is back at his home in South Carolina and we are continuing our focus on his upcoming album and acting roles."
CNN reported the state highway patrol responded Friday night to Nati's statement by reiterating that DMX was arrested and charged for a DUI, driving without a license and driving without a seat belt.
Prior to this incident, the rapper has faced many criminal charges in the past, including probation violation, illegal drug possession and animal cruelty.
CNN reported Maricopa County, Arizona authorities said DMX was arrested five times after August 2007, including the time he tried to barricade himself in his home, before being arrested for drug and animal cruelty charges.
