Henry Ruggs III Killed Tina Tintor In a Snap
The accident happened in the wee hours of November 2 around a residential street in Las Vegas. The former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver was driving his Corvette at 156 mph while under the influence of alcohol.
He eventually bumped and collided into Tintor's Toyota Rav4. The impact caused a rupture to the gas tank, killing the 23-year-old woman and her golden retriever, Max.
According to reports, his blood alcohol content was 0.16 percent on the night of the crash. The amount was twice the legal limit in Nevada. He also broke the 45 mph speed limit.
On top of that, the authorities found a loaded handgun inside Ruggs' car.
Witnesses reportedly heard screams, and some even attempted to rescue Tintor and her dog. Unfortunately, the fire was already uncontrollable, and more smoke engulfed the car.
A week later, the 22-year-old athlete failed to attend the hearing in the Las Vegas Justice court. He was formally charged with two counts of driving under the influence, causing death or substantial harm.
He also received two counts of reckless driving, which is being treated as a felony in the state if it results in death or physical injury. On top of that, he was charged with possessing a gun while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Clark County district attorney Steve Wolfson told reporters that the felony counts were added since Ruggs' passenger, his girlfriend Kiara Washington, was also injured.
If he is convicted of the DUI charges, he would be sentenced to prison and receive no probation.
