In 2011, Alec said his life changed when he sat outside Pure Food and Wine on Irving Place as he saw Hilaria. In a previous interview, he confirmed that he didn't ask her number but instead, gave her his card to call him.
Hilaria told The New York Times that she was standing near the door with her friends, and he suddenly walked up to her and gave her a card, saying, "I must know you."
She later called the number and went on a date a few days later. The couple became official lovers a few months later and started moving in with each other.
At first, there was an issue with their 26-year-age difference, but Alec didn't mind it as he mentioned that she was very mature and clear about what she wanted in life.
Since the filmmaker had a daughter with his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, Hilaria needed to adjust as she needed to be a stepmother.
Speaking to Us Weekly Magazine, the yoga instructor said she never wanted to disrespect the fact that Ireland has a "wondeful mother," but she will always love and need her in her life.
