Angelina Jolie Tops Forbes Highest-Paid Actresses List: Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart & More
Forbes named Angelina Jolie, 38, the highest-earning actress from June 2012 to June 2013, announced Monday in a list that includes first time Oscar winners, a Twilight star and Brad Pitt's ex-wife all in the top five.
Jolie was named No. 1 even though she has not starred in a major film in three years and took time off for her double mastectomy. However, the publication credits her role in the upcoming film Maleficent for helping her get the top spot on the list, with $33 million in overall entertainment-related earnings. The magazine estimated that Jolie took home at least $15 million for the Maleficent role.
Maleficent is a take on Disney's Sleeping Beauty but from the perspective of the evil queen, played by Jolie. It hits theaters in summer 2014 and marks Jolie's first return to a big-budget film since her December 2010 role in The Tourist alongside Johnny Depp.
Jolie will direct the upcoming Universal Pictures film titled Unbroken, which will come to theaters on Dec. 25, 2014. The film is based on The New York Times best-selling novel by Laura Hillenbrand titled Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption. The book tells the story of an Olympian and war hero named Lou Zamperini.
No. 2 on Forbes' list is Jennifer Lawrence, who most recently won her first Oscar - a Best Actress nod - for Silver Linings Playbook. Forbes estimated that Lawrence earned about $26 million in the past year. That number is expected to increase greatly following the next installment in The Hunger Games franchise Catching Fire, will be released in theaters in November.
Kristen Stewart came in third with $22 million and Jennifer Aniston was fourth with $20 million. The latter reportedly takes pay cuts to appear in films like We're The Millers and Horrible Bosses. Rounding out the top ten were Emma Stone, Charlize Theron, Sandra Bullock, Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Julia Roberts.
