Here's What This Year's All-Virtual NAACP Image Awards Are Going To Look Like (Hint: Pretty Great)
Last night, the NAACP and BET hosted a talkback to discuss what this year's NAACP Image Awards are going to look like this year - because while they're still taking place live, an all-virtual event with no audience is going to make for a very different show.
WHEN ARE THE 2022 NAACP AWARDS
The awards show, which will be broadcast on BET on February 26, will take place not just in one location, but all across the US - from restaurants to museums; from the only Black-woman-owned comic book shop in LA to the Apollo Theater in New York (where someone very special will be performing - we can't say who yet, but it's going to knock your socks off.)
There are plenty of performances planned to keep the audience entertained, with Anthony Anderson there to tie everything together as host. This year's show is going to be more like a combination variety-and-awards show, with performances and even sketches sprinkled throughout.
And being all virtual doesn't mean that it won't feel like a real awards show - the producers have worked hard to make sure this year's virtual event will feel as immersive as possible. There are going to be virtual activities happening online all week for members of the NAACP, including a Fashion Show Brunch on Friday to celebrate some of the biggest Black voices in fashion, including Ruth Carter, featuring her costumes from Black Panther and Coming 2 America.
The virtual events will also include miniature presentations for awards that they will not have time to give on air. These awards include a few new ones - there are four new podcasting categories, a new Social Media Personality of the Year Award, and separate awards for Activist of the Year and Youth Activist of the Year - because, after all, the NAACP, is first and foremost, about activism.
And on that note, organizers would also remind those interested that if you join the NAACP, you can actually vote for the winners of the image awards - and anyone can join!
This year's NAACP Image Awards will take place February 26 on BET, CBS, and other Viacom CBS Networks at 8PM EST. Tune in to see Black voices making a difference - and for an awesome show!
