The official trailer to Downton Abbey: A New Era is here, and we could not be more excited!
Downton Abbey began as a fan favorite historical drama, following the Crawley family as they navigate their aristocratic lives overseeing an Abbey. Following the Sex and the City track, after the conclusion of the show, there was a successful film of the show, and, now, they are coming out with another.
Downton Abbey: A New Era once again shows this traditional family navigating an ever changing societal landscape. Based on the trailer, we see the stiff-upper-lipped Crawleys getting themselves invovled in the new and exciting film industry. There are some mixed opinions about engaging Downton in this new and questionable art form, but Mary Crawley appears to be driving the ship into the future.
While she is grappling with the future, others are seeking to deal with the past. Lady Violet Crawley, played by the personification of perfection herself, Maggie Smith, reveals that a man she once met left her a villa in the south of France. This leaves some of the Crawleys to travel away from the Abbey to discover what they can about the matriarch's mysterious past.
In a show so heavily reliant on tradition, we are thrilled to see that the majority of our favorite characters are making their way back to the screen for this film. Returning actors include Maggie Smith, Harry Hadden-Paton, Laura Carmichae, Tuppence Middleton, Allen Leech, Elizabeth McGovern, Penelope Wilton, Laura Haddock, Michael Fox, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol, Matthew Goode, Hugh Bonneville, Joanne Froggatt, Brendan Coyle, and several others. We cannot wait to see them bring life back to Downton Abbey once more.
The film comes out in theaters on May 20th, 2022.
