There's something called the "post-holiday funk" in entertainment - in the days following the Christmas and New Year holiday breaks, TV networks and streaming services expect to see dips in their viewership, as people return to work and school and don't have all that vacation free time to watch stuff.

That's why it's surprising that, even during that period, Disney's Encanto continued to grow in viewership - it seems that even back in school, kids couldn't get their minds off of Lin-Manuel Miranda's catchy music - and, given the amount of online hype, it seems like adults are loving it too.

Not only has Encanto topped the Nielsen charts for streaming movies for two straight weeks, it has also - in what the data collection organization has noted as an impressive feat - managed to gain views after reaching the number one spot.

Plus, possibly even more impressive: Encanto was at the number two spot on Nielsen's overall streaming chart at the middle of this month: That means it's not only beating out popular movies, but popular television as well.

This is some major encouragement for Disney, especially given the demographics: 25% of Encanto's viewership came from hispanic households, which is a very strong argument for Disney to plut more money and manpower into diverse content like it. The studio has slowly been working to build out what has been, historically, a very white-centric library of characters, since around the 1990s.

As huge fans of Encanto, we're super happy to see this film doing so well months after its initial release. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, you can stream this beautiful family film on Disney+ now.
