As far as home invasion films go, IFC Midnight might just have a winner on their hands with their upcoming film Barbarians.

The film, which stars Game of Thrones Iwan Rheon (aka Ramsey Bolton) in the role of subdued husband (until he isn't,) tells the story of four friends at a mild-mannered birthday party in a secluded country house - one which quickly turns into a tale of secrets and lies, as those in attendance are pitted against a group of masked intruders.

The film seemingly starts as a character study in fragile friendship, examining the relationship between between Adam (Rheon) and Lucas, played by Tom Collins.

Lucas takes it upon himself to try and sell the house out from under Adam, only to put the meek homeowner on the defensive. Enter a group of vicious intruders in terrifying masks, which fuels the already tense situation to a simmering boil.

Now held captive, the once-docile Adam has to step up to defend his home and loved ones, while questioning why these events have even transpired in the first place.

Barbarians, at least from the trailer, has the quirk of a dark comedy mixed with the horror elements seen in films like You're Next and Straw Dogs where a less than formidable character rises to the challenge to become a "pushed too far" protagonist who goes to monstrous lengths to defend what is theirs.

Co-starring Catalina Sandino Moreno and Inès Spiridonov, the trailer for Barbarians plays like a tongue-in-cheek dark comedy while bringing the brutality of a grindhouse flick.
